Medical Doctor (basic doctor) in training to become a Specialists in Elderly Care

A specialist in geriatric medicine is the medical specialist that the patient living in a nursing home or rehabilitation center deals with for a complaint, illness or condition and treatment. 

Responsibilities of a medical doctor in training to become a Specialists in Elderly Care: 

As a SEC in the realm of vulnerable elderly and chronically ill individuals, you will play a pivotal role in influencing how we can optimize the utilization of the medical department. This position offers you the chance to actively contribute to shaping your work environment in collaboration with the department and various locations, as well as participate in policy-making processes. 

Our focus lies in providing care for elderly individuals dealing with dementia, non-congenital brain injuries, somatic problems, and Korsakov syndrome. Additionally, we offer Geriatric Rehabilitation Care, Primary Care, and operate a screening department. Your expertise will be integral in enhancing the overall quality of care and services we provide to our diverse patient population. 

Your profile: 

• Diploma: Doctor of Medicine obtained in an EU/EAA country. 
• EU nationality. 
• Willing to learn under supervision. 
• At least A2 level of English. 

The training process from Medical Doctor to SEC:

• Obtaining BIG registration is the first necessary step. 
• You start as a medical doctor and work under supervision. 
• Once a year the training to SEC starts. You will do an internship in various disciplines, but also within other nursing homes. 
• You will become acquainted with all the disciplines offered to the patient within the care institution (psychology, physiotherapy, rehabilitation). 
• Everything aimed at increasing your knowledge of vulnerable elderly people. 

* Experienced GPs can also follow the SEC training. 

Employment conditions:

• Annual salary in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labor Agreement. 
• 25 vacation days (based on 36 hours per week).
